In the Memetime • If you want Bernie Sanders to get elected in 2016

12 Jun

Bernie Sanders is the candidate I want to vote for in 2016 … no one else has a record that fits my criteria of who should be our next president. His record is an open book and consistent from the beginning of his career fighting for Campaign Finance, Civil Liberties, Civil Rights, Dairy & Agriculture, Dental Care, Economy, Education, Energy & Environment, Financial Reform, War and Peace, Media Ownership Telecommunications, Prescription Drugs, Primary Health Care, Seniors, Trade, Transportation & Infrastructure, Veterans, Women’s Rights!

Liam Miller in his article today 5 Things Bernie Sanders Has Said or Done That Should Have Been Political Suicide, But Weren’t” Posted: 06/11/2015 1:30 pm EDT includes a brief history of Bernie’s positions and history on issues that are very important to We the People!

We are getting screwed by the very people we elected to office, but Bernie is not like any one of THEM – he’s fought hard for ‘We the People’ and is not a millionaire like many of the congressional members who get rich in office or upon retiring.

Let’s help get Senator Bernie Sanders in the Whitehouse before the USA is no longer the land of the free and the name changed to: CORPORATE STATES OF NORTH AMERICA.

Do what Luciferandphilosopher says if you want Bernie Sanders to be our next president:

“It’s long overdue for Wildlife Services to be held accountable for killing wildlife and releasing pollutants into our environment,” said Travis Bruner, executive director of Western Watersheds Project. “We want an explanation for this deplorable expenditure of public funds.”Lawsuit Launched to Stop Out-of-control Wildlife Killing by Secretive Federal Agency in IdahoBOISE, Idaho— Four conservation organizations today filed a notice of intent to sue

the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Wildlife Services program over its large-scale, often secretive killing of wild animals in Idaho. The program kills millions of animals nationwide every year, and in 2013 killed more than 3,000 mammals in Idaho alone via aerial gunning, neck snares, foothold traps, and toxic devices known as M-44s that spray sodium cyanide into the victim’s mouth, causing tremendous suffering and releasing toxic chemicals into the environment.

The lawsuit will challenge Wildlife Services’ renewal of its efforts in Idaho to eradicate coyotes, black bears, mountain lions, bobcats, foxes and other important carnivores from the landscape for the benefit of private livestock and agricultural interests. Wildlife Services also plans to remove dozens of beaver dams using explosives that will harm bull trout, a protected species. The program admits that its trapping activities will harm threatened grizzly bears and Canada lynx. Trapping also targets fishers, which are in rapid decline in the Northern Rocky Mountains due to a vast increase in trapping activities in Idaho. Conservation groups have petitioned to protect the fisher under the Endangered Species Act.

“One of the many problems with this program is the many unintended victims left in its wake, including endangered species,” said Andrea Santarsiere, staff attorney at the Center for Biological Diversity. “Grizzly bears, lynx and bull trout are all suffering at the hands of Wildlife Services, and that needs to stop.”

Wildlife Services has come under increasing criticism for the sheer number of animals that it kills and injures, (including many nontarget animals), the ineffectiveness of its methods, its cruel and inhumane tactics, and its antiquated attitude about carnivores, which scientists demonstrate are critically important to maintaining intact ecosystems in the western United States. Beavers similarly play a key role in healthy ecosystems and are critical to successful climate adaptation. New research demonstrates the essential role beavers play by stabilizing streams, slowing snowmelt runoff, and improving fish habitat, among other benefits.

“Native carnivores and beavers are key parts of healthy, thriving ecosystems,” said Drew Kerr, carnivore advocate for WildEarth Guardians. “Wildlife Services needs to join the 21st century and follow the best available science to ensure its activities don’t further damage Idaho’s ecosystems.”

After members of Congress demanded an investigation of the program’s practices earlier this year, the Agriculture Department commenced an audit of its wildlife control activities. Due to the lack of any regulatory framework to govern the program, the Center for Biological Diversity and allies filed a comprehensive petition for reform in December 2013.

Wildlife Services has never conducted either an analysis of the statewide environmental impacts of its activities or of the impact of beaver dam destruction.

“Wildlife Services–what a euphemism–has never shown itself to be biologically or fiscally sound,” said Gary Macfarlane of Friends of the Clearwater. “In fact, in the case of coyotes, the killing program seems to be a never-ending bloodbath that harms other species as well.”

Western Watersheds Project, the Center for Biological Diversity, WildEarth Guardians, and Friends of the Clearwater are represented by Boise-based law firm Advocates for the West.

Western Watersheds Project is a nonprofit conservation group founded in 1993 with 1,400 members whose mission is to protect and restore western watersheds and wildlife through education, public policy initiatives and litigation.

The Center for Biological Diversity is a national, nonprofit conservation organization with more than 775,000 members and online activists dedicated to the protection of endangered species and wild places.

WildEarth Guardians is a nonprofit conservation organization working to protect and restore the wildlife, wild places, wild rivers and health of the American West.

Friends of the Clearwater is an Idaho-based nonprofit conservation organization that works to protect the wildness and biodiversity of the public wildlands, wildlife, and waters of Idaho’s Clearwater Basin.

Advocates for the West uses law and science to restore streams and watersheds, protect public lands and wildlife, and ensure sustainable communities in Idaho and throughout the West.

People May Die of Thirst as Fossil Fuel Production Exhausts and Pollutes Our Fresh Water Supply

All living beings drink water.  When fresh water is used for fracking it takes water permanently out of the TOTAL amount that is drinkable by people and animals. Hydraulic fracturing isn’t the only process that causing pollution – the transport via pipeline, rail cars and trains can also cause severe pollution considering that spills and leaks have happened and continue to happen often. How will farmers grow food if there is no unpolluted water available?

Doesn’t make sense that frackers are producing a product in which the process will inevitably kill their customers and wildlife as well.

Who are they fracking this fuel for after they contaminate the water supply and kill their customers?

Withering Whales

2 Feb

Wake up people! Humans are poisoning the world! Animals are dying and species are going extinct because of the greed manifested in many people (er I mean corporations) that continue to exploit all the natural resources to fill their bank accounts with something that can not be taken to their graves! Oceans should not be a dumping ground – directly or indirectly! Keep in mind that the pollution we put into the air will come back down into the oceans. Oceans cover 71% of the world and is the largest habitat!

An update to this story

The news is worse yet today, even more Whales have been found dead and again their stomachs were empty, but the thing that is most disturbing is the fact that these whales normally  live in very deep waters and that they are probably coming into shallower waters now because something is terribly wrong where they live in the Gulf. Once again my suspicions are toxins from either the BP oil spill or the chemicals used to clean it up. These family oriented mammals will all follow even one sick member to their own deaths. It is tragic.  Regardless of what is the cause this time,  we are killing our  sea life and poisoning the sea. God help us all.

About 25 pilot whales found dead in southwest Florida

Each day as I watch our local news, I keep hoping that this will all end…

Guide to Tweetstorms

5 Jun

I’ve been participating in a lot of tweetstorm events over the last few weeks and have set some up as well. These events, like all events, in order to be successful, tweetstorms take some planning. In addition to finding people to participate there are things to decide. These include: the purpose of the tweetstorm, hashtag to use, date and time of the tweetstorm.

WHAT IS A TWEETSTORM?

A tweetstorm is a twitter event where many people post on a topic using a designated hashtag which represents a specific topic at the same time in order to make the hashtag trend.

WHAT IS A HASHTAG?

A hashtag is a word that has this character in front of a word: #

WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF A HASHTAG?

This is basically a way to quickly index a tweet and allows the tweeter to find all the tweets that use this hashtag.  Upon clicking on the hashtag either in the list of trending hashtags or in any tweet you see, will make the tweet display column load all the tweets using this hashtag. At the top of the column of tweets there are three choices. Top Tweets, All Tweets and Follower’s tweets.

WHAT DOES TRENDING MEAN?

A trending hashtag appears on the list of trending hashtags that appears on the left side of the screen. When a hashtag trends it means that very many people are tweeting the same hashtag. It does NOT include any retweets!

PURPOSE OF A TWEETSTORM

The first thing to decide is the purpose of the tweetstorm. What is it that you want people to learn? This will determine the appropriate hashtag to use.

WHAT HASHTAG SHOULD BE USED?

It’s important not to select a hashtag that has been used before. If you use a hashtag that has been previously used you might make someone upset with you because you don’t really know the purpose that the originator uses it for. Is it a title of a blog or product, song, poem or book? Maybe it’s a hashtag to gather tweets for a paper.li or could it also be a hashtag that connects a group of people on twitter to a topic that is not the same or similar to the meaning you intended it be used for.

HOW TO FIND A HASHTAG THAT HAS NEVER BEEN USED BEFORE?

Search for it in Twitter and when nothing shows up then you are good to go.

SUGGESTIONS ON MAKING SAMPLE TWEETS WITH LINKS

Use a shortlink! With a shortlink it is easy to determine how many characters you have left to use in your tweets. If you use a long link you will not know how many characters are available for the tweet because twitter may shorten the link depending on the tools the tweeter has active on their own twitter account.

Keep in mind that many tweets can be made for the same link to be tweeted;  text should be different for each tweet to lure more people to read the link.

*       If a celebrity or professional (ie., Doctor, trainer, public official, actor, scientist,  musician, artist etc) is mentioned in a story it’s a good idea to try and use their quote in a tweet and their name.  Sometimes these quotes are too long to fit in a tweet so it may be paraphrased slightly.

*      If statistics are quoted, make a tweet with those statistics and add the source of those statistics.

*      If violations of current law are noted – use it.

*      One thing I’ve noticed in the tweetstorms is that many of the tweets are sentences or paraphrases of lines of text from the links.  If it’s an especially key point, it’s a good idea to use it.

*      Avoid using the same word twice in a tweet – each word is valuable real estate and should not be wasted.

The best way to make a sample tweet is to have the link open and select key sentences to use or paraphrase as close to the original text. Other times the tweet could be a question about a statement made in the story, a quote from the story, a true statement from a well-known professional such as an actor/actress, writer, poet, fashion model, author, journalist, politician, scientist, musician, teacher, painter, theologist, archealogist, politician, lobbyist, engineer, government agency. You never know what tweple will will search for and I believe that some there will be more people searching for a famous name than from and unknown name.

This is a good tool to use when making sample tweets: http://www.lettercount.com/

ONLY TWEETS, NOT RETWEETS MAKE A TWEET TREND

Only tweets and NOT retweets will make a hashtag trend! This can be overcome by using Tweetdeck in a twitterstorm. You can easily edit a tweet you selected to retweet and change the RT to something else it all depends on the length of the tweet.  If there’s not much room try adding: OMG, via ,Yes, I know, Ur right, True, TY, and anything else you can that comes to mind that is the appropriate. Learn to use www.tweetdeck.com before the tweetstorm.

In order to prevent tweple from retweeting, it may be a good idea to make tweets that use up all or most 140 characters as these will not be easily retweeted by anyone using twitter. If you are using Tweetdeck (see below), there is a way to retweet them, sort of.

One drawback is that after the tweetstorm, those who are using Twitter won’t be able to RT them easily by clicking a button. I suggest some samples tweets that are less that 140 characters be made so after the tweetstorm people will RT them easily by using twitter.

***Please watch out for extra spaces between words. With only 140 characters to use, each character is a valuable commodity in twitter and should not be wasted on extra spaces.

TWEETDECK

Tweetdeck is a great tool to use in a tweetstorm and I strongly recommend  using it providing you learn it before the tweetstorm take place.  There are several advantages for using this ‘tool’ in a tweetstorm.

A really nice feature is it lets you schedule some tweets ahead of time. When you click on the icon to write a tweet, there’s a clock icon along the bottom of the window. When you click the clock icon, a calendar opens up and you can input the day and time you want the tweet to post. This is very handy if your internet connection gets slow because the program will have your tweet and post it at the day and time you selected. Nothing is more frustrating than being in a tweetstorm and your computer hangs up. Tweets should be schedule 2-3 minutes apart.

You must have your computer on and a window with this page loaded – but you can walk away and do something else while the tweetstorm is on. If you have a smart phone, load it on to your phone and that way you won’t have to be at home and on your computer.

Another excellent feature is you can edit a retweet (and remember RT’s don’t count towards trending) and remove the RT!  You can substitute it with somethinge else like via, TY, OMG or other small words to fit the space available.  If you see a tweet that you can’t retweet because retweeting it will make it larger than the 140 character limit, you can edit that tweet to fit. In a tweetstorm it’s handy so you won’t have to copy/paste a tweet which for some is time consuming.

More about TWEETSTORMS coming soon …..
